MĀORI LEADERSHIP TO THE 7TH GENERATION
Te Mana Pono O Te Rangatira Leadership Foundation Rangatahi Council, Te Taonga Tuku Iho, is an important arm of our Executive Management Team. As an organisation our purpose and mission is to link up and build relationships of trust (Whakawhanaungatanga) with Rangatahi, within their Whanau, Hapū, sports and recreational clubs and schools. Our objective is to identify issues (Nga Take) that Rangatahi are navigating through, which has and is currently impacting on their lives, (Orangatanga).
We play an active role in the development, delivery and implementation of programmes and activities that will promote wellness for those of our peers and their whanau. In addition we work alongside our Executive Team in promoting, expounding Te Taonga Tuku Iho philosophy Whai I Te Hīranga (The Pursuit of Excellence) to Government and other organisations, clubs and community associations involved with Youth.
Alvin Ezra Brown
Council Chairman
Alvin Brown is of Whanau A Hinerupe, Ruataupare, Ruawaiapu, Ngati Porou, Raukawa, Ngapuhi, Te Roroa and Te Aupouri descent. He has a combined ten (10) years’ experience in photography, videography, graphic design, IT and ICT. He has worked with various organisations including the Waikato, Lakes and Tairawhiti District Health Boards.
Alvin Brown is of Whanau A Hinerupe, Ruataupare, Ruawaiapu, Ngati Porou, Raukawa, Ngapuhi, Te Roroa and Te Aupouri descent. He has a combined ten (10) years’ experience in photography, videography, graphic design, IT and ICT. He has worked with various organisations including the Waikato, Lakes and Tairawhiti District Health Boards.
Alvin played an integral role in setting up the Hapu Wānanga kaupapa across these Districts, responsible for producing all the photographic and videos footage and co-designing their Hapu Wānanga Midlands Curriculum.
Alvin has been a service missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, working in the Church history department and also for the emerging Church Pacific History Museum out in Temple View.
Alvin has also volunteered with the Tai Wānanga School Band as part of their School production. Alvin has said It was an awesome experience being able to work with the students not only as a performer, but as a bit of a mentor to the students as well.
Liahona Brown
Council Secretary
Liahona Brown is of Te Roroa, Te Aupouri, Nga Puhi and Irish decent on her mothers side and Te Whanau A Ruataupare, Te Whanau A Hinerupe, Ruawaiapu, Raukawa, Ati Awa and Irish decent on her dad’s side. Liahona identifies as a strong Maori wahine, who used trauma that found it’s way early in her teenage life, to elevate and strengthen herself to become a better daughter.
Liahona Brown is of Te Roroa, Te Aupouri, Nga Puhi and Irish decent on her mothers side and Te Whanau A Ruataupare, Te Whanau A Hinerupe, Ruawaiapu, Raukawa, Ati Awa and Irish decent on her dad’s side. Liahona identifies as a strong Maori wahine, who used trauma that found it’s way early in her teenage life, to elevate and strengthen herself to become a better daughter, sister, niece, cousin and a wonderful loving and caring mother to her beautiful daughter. She states "that experience alone, has infused and planted within her, a passion to helping and assisting others, particularly young wahine, that have and or are experiencing trauma in their life".
Regarding her education, Liahona’s final year at High School, were difficult and challenging this due to her undertaking intense counselling and going through court proceedings. However despite these disruptions she was still able to complete her final year at Melville High School
Liahona is honest, has a caring temperament, puts others before herself, is reliable and trustworthy. Further, she is a hard-worker, follows instructions well, is able to work independently and in a team environment. This been demonstrated more so in her role as Lead Checkout Operator at the New World Supermarket Glenview
Pianika Kingi
Council Member
Pianika Kingi is of Ngati Maniapoto, Te Arawa, Rangitane, Rongomaiwahine, Ngati Paoa, Ngati Kahungunu, Ngati Ranginui, Ngai Te Rangi, Hauraki, Ngati Tuwharetoa and Ngati Porou descent. She has been brought up through Kohanga reo, Kura kaupapa and Whare Kura, and is currently attending Hamilton Girls High. She is the eldest of 5 children.
Pianika Kingi is of Ngati Maniapoto, Te Arawa, Rangitane, Rongomaiwahine, Ngati Paoa, Ngati Kahungunu, Ngati Ranginui, Ngai Te Rangi, Hauraki, Ngati Tuwharetoa and Ngati Porou descent.
She has been brought up through Kohanga reo, Kura kaupapa and Whare Kura, and is currently attending Hamilton Girls High.
She is the eldest of 5 children and is one of 61 grandchildren to her paternal and maternal grandparents. Pianika has held leadership positions at school and at church and is also diligently involved in her youth program that she attends weekly.
She loves kapa haka, whakapapa, reading, travel, cooking and horticulture. Pianika is fluent english and Maori speaker and is passionate about her culture.
